We’re closing out our series focusing on transportation and the work Sheryl Machado and the team are doing to convene regional stakeholders in order to reduce congestion for Denver South residents and commuters. In this series finale, we want to highlight some of Sheryl’s favorite things to do in Denver South and share why she is so passionate about Denver South.

As a Colorado native, Sheryl has seen a lot of growth and change in the Denver South area. “When I look back to my college days, it’s fun to recall the history of the region. That’s about the time they started building the Park Meadows Retail Resort, which is now an amazing landmark and draw to the region,” Sheryl shared with us. “Back then, the region was known as The Denver Tech Center; however, we are so much more than a ‘tech center’ today. We are working collectively with our partners to rebrand our organization and the region; the growth and vitality taking place over the past few years has been exciting to be a part of and to watch.”

“I have seen this region evolve into a community that thrives,” says Sheryl. “My favorite thing is facilitating the collaboration across our Partner Jurisdictions. As shown dating back to TREX and the Southeast Rail Extension, this region is known for collaboration and working towards the betterment of the region.”

While Sheryl is passionate about her role at Denver South, her interests go beyond helping the community grow and succeed. Some of her favorite places in the region include:

  • The Bluffs in Lone Tree – it’s a great place to take a quick hike or bike ride to connect with nature
  • Blue Island Oyster Bar in Lone Tree – you can’t beat their Scallops or Chilean Sea Bass
  • Urban Egg in Belleview Station – their avocado toast is tops for breakfast!

For Sheryl, the relationships she builds and the opportunities she has to impact her community are highlights of her job. She wants to develop and share Denver South’s resources to help the region continue to grow and thrive. Sheryl and the Denver South team are committed, dedicated community builders – in her words, “give us a call, we are here to serve and support our employers, employees and our jurisdictional partners.”
