The Denver Regional Council of Governments honors Ron Rakowsky, former Mayor of Greenwood Village and long-time Denver South board member with the John V. Christensen Award.
The Award is DRCOG’s highest accolade and has been presented since 1973. Established in memory of John V. Christensen, a DRCOG founder and Arapahoe County commissioner, it recognizes individuals who promote cooperation and collaboration for the benefit of the region.
An attorney by trade, Ron Rakowsky has a remarkable record of public service. Ron served nearly thirty years in the United States Air Force, as Starr Judge Advocate for the Air Reserve Personnel Center at the time of his 1994 retirement. Ron later worked at the Pentagon where he provided significant input into the development of the Department of Defense AIDS policy and drug testing program. Ron also served as a lobbyist for Colorado’s credit unions, executive for trade organizations and held elected positions on City Council. He served as the Mayor of Greenwood Village from 2011 to 2019.
Mayor Rakowsky served a pivotal role in Denver South as a member of the Denver South Economic Development Partnership and the Transportation Management Association Board of Directors– creating a vibrant community for both economic development and transportation. Ron was instrumental in his support of TREX and development near I-25 and Arapahoe which supported economic growth in the region and transportation connectivity to RTD light rail.
Denver South would like to also recognize Mayor Rakowsky for his great service to our region and congratulate him on this amazing honor from DRCOG.
