Colorado’s aerospace industry has been gathering increased attention in the past few weeks, as Denver South based United Launch Alliance won a $191 million Air Force contract, beating out SpaceX. Colorado’s aerospace industry was featured in a CNBC article that highlighted the industry’s substantial presence in the state and economic impact.
Within Colorado, Denver South is a leading region for aerospace companies. Aerospace employment in the Denver South region represents 21 percent of all aerospace employment in the nine-county Metropolitan Denver region and more than 12 percent of all aerospace companies in the nine-county region are located in Denver South.
The region is well-positioned between the diverse mix of Department of Defense military installations in Colorado Springs and Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, bringing a high concentration of aerospace workers to the area. Aerospace companies thrive in the region thanks to a highly-educated and technical workforce and pro-business environment that encourages industry growth.
