It’s been very busy here at Denver South this summer. Behind the scenes, we’ve been making changes to better achieve our goal of assisting businesses across the region. For some staff, this means new roles and challenges. Becky Nelson has stepped up to take on a new role as Director of Partner Engagement. What does this mean, and why is she excited about this? We sat down with her to learn more.
What is your new role?
The change in roles brings new opportunities to help facilitate job creation and mobility solutions in Denver South. I’m excited for my new role as Director of Partner Engagement. I’ll work with jurisdictions, business leaders, elected officials, developers, and partner agencies to advance efforts that strategically encourage job growth, enhance regional competitiveness, and champion advocacy efforts.
What do you want businesses to understand about Denver South?
We are working hard with our regional partners to advocate for additional tools to support your business and employees. We understand recruitment and accessing attainable housing are vital to your success. These are significant challenges in our regional and national economies. We are collaborating with our partners to advocate for tools to support housing options in the region. Additionally, there is an extensive network of agencies along the Front Range focused on developing pathways for workers across many industries, training your existing workforce, and recruiting additional talent. We’re eager to connect you to these resources to address your workforce needs.
What are you excited for professionally?
I’m excited to build relationships and collaborate with leaders in our community. The enthusiasm and passion in Denver South makes coming to work fun. I’m also looking forward to contributing on a two key initiatives:
- Creating a new coalition to work with parks and recreation districts, cities, counties, and developers to create an environment where people want to live, work, and play.
- Finalizing an update to the I-25 Corridor Study, which will evaluate current economic conditions and forecast growth in the region.
Altogether it makes my work days interesting and rewarding!
What are you doing for fun this summer?
Keeping my kids busy! My husband and I have a 12-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son at home who have been enjoying a “free range” summer. We’re also renovating our kitchen – which has been its own brand of fun. We also recently ran the Rugged Maniac Obstacle Course in Lakewood.
Any last words?
One of the best things we do as an organization is to convene various groups and stakeholders to help shape our region. We have a lot of opportunities to connect in the coming months. We’d love for you to join us. And never hesitate to reach out directly. It’s our job to help you be successful!
