About EcoDevo 101: The practice of economic development is vital to the advancement of any thriving community. It is also often misunderstood. In this series, we’ll dig deeper into the topics that underpin the profession, from public policy and mobility to technology and community planning, among many others.
As we begin to emerge from the pandemic and move into recovery, we want to celebrate some of the good news coming out of the Denver South business community.
- Zynex Medical recently announced they will be expanding their headquarters in Douglas County, relocating to a larger space in response to their continued growth. In fact, Zynex announced 140% year over year growth in orders in Q1 2021. This expansion is in addition to the 50,000 square feet of warehouse space in Compark/Douglas County they took occupancy of earlier in 2021. Zynex currently employs an estimated 400 in Colorado, 800 nationwide.
- On April 7th, Fidelity Investments, with a presence in Greenwood Village, announced they plan to hire 4,000 people by June 30th, including 375 people in Colorado. This is an addition to the 500+ hired in CO in 2020.
- Nextworld, the Colorado-based enterprise software pioneer, has announced the planned expansion of its Greenwood Village headquarters. The multifaceted Nextworld project includes a major investment in an expanded campus that will serve as the hub for more than 300 new Colorado jobs.
- Bye Aerospace, headquartered at the Centennial Airport, just announced their 50th Started by one man in 2007, the company continues to make strides in the aviation industry with their electric aircraft projects, leading to greater innovation in the field.
- Centennial Based United Launch Alliance (ULA) won $224.3 million in contracts, covering two satellite launches, for the U.S. Space Force in 2023. On top of this, ULA, along with Lockheed Martin and Sierra Nevada Corporation (both with a Denver South presence), were crucial to the NASA Mars Perseverance Mission, which made its successful landing on the red planet in February.
- HealthOne opened the doors to its new Centennial Hospital earlier in 2021, adding an additional 80 new jobs this year. By adding the hospital to the existing Centennial Medical Plaza, the community now has access to exceptional full-service care, close to home. Another HealthOne facility, Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree made Healthgrades “2021 America’s Best Hospitals” list.
This is just a sampling of the exciting business coming out of the first few months of 2021.
