Denver South is home to nine light rail stations and RTD’s highest performing lines (E & F). We, along with our jurisdictional partners, understand the value of transit for our regional employers and their employees. In fact, since the adoption of the 2004 voter approved FasTracks program, Denver South’s jurisdictions (including Arapahoe & Douglas Counties and the cities of Lone Tree and Centennial) have have played a significant role with continued funding for construction and daily bus/rail operations, including the completion of the South East Rail Extension. Denver South understands the benefit of the RTD services in our region and is committed to supporting RTD, its Board of Directors and Chair Angie Rivera-Malpiede.
As we look forward, our regional transportation future is faced with not dissimilar challenges to RTD. Budget shortfalls might lead to tough decisions for transportation planners when selecting improvement projects – putting some projects either on the back-burner or in jeopardy of not being completed at all. A good partnership with RTD is paramount to getting work done, and, based on recent comments from new CEO Debra Johnson, signs are encouraging. Denver South looks forward to a renewed partnership with RTD. Increasing ridership and confidence in RTD can maintain a high level of service on the I-25 corridor – which will reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality. Benefits which everyone who lives, works and plays in Denver South can support.
