The summer is almost here and, while everyone loves spending some time in the mountains, sometimes it’s nice to avoid the traffic and stay close to home.
Luckily for Denver South residents, there’s lots to do in the area. Whether you like live shows, thrill seeking, tasting rooms – or just getting your kids tired out over the summer break — here’s a list of ideas of things to do without leaving the region.
1) Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre- Greenwood Village
Check out a show at the Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre. Hosting big names like Train and Hootie and the Blowfish, the amphitheater boats a seating capacity of 17,000 people. So, bring your friends.
2) Museum of Outdoor Arts- Englewood:
Want to check out a museum without having to leave the sun outside? Check out the Museum of Outdoor Art’s 150 installations spread throughout Englewood, Greenwood Plaza, and Denver. If you do want a break from the sun, you can check out the museum’s impressive indoor space headquartered in Englewood.
3) Wings Over the Rockies Exploration of Flight- Englewood:
Opened just last summer, the Exploration of Flight exhibit is a 15-acre campus designed to educate, entertain, and inspire interest in flight. The exhibit offers flight-related experiences for adults and kids alike.
4) Devil’s Head Distillery-Englewood:
Ready for a drink? Devil’s Head Distillery is the region’s first small batch craft distillery. Check out the tasting room and enjoy a unique artisanal spirit.
5) Centennial Center Park – Centennial:
Opened in 2012 as Centennial’s first city-owned park, this 11-acre, award-winning park is located next to the Centennial Civic Center and includes an amphitheater, splash pad, state-of-the-art playground features and picnic shelters.
6) Westlands Park- Greenwood Village:
Home to the top-rated playground by 5280 Magazine and the Rocky Mountain News, Westlands Park is full of fun for kids and offers much-sought after shade on hot days.
7) Lone Tree Brewing Company- Lone Tree:
Offering eight flagship beers and several small batch rotating seasonal selections, the Lone Tree Brewing Company is a European-style brewhouse and tasting room that offers a family-friendly environment. Try a drink and make a friend.
8) Lone Tree Arts Center- Lone Tree:
Interested in an intimate performance? Owned and operated by the city of Lone Tree, the Lone Tree Arts Center is a 225 seat event hall that both presents and produces its own performances as well as hosts touring artists.
9) iFLY Indoor Skydiving- Lone Tree:
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to fly in a high-tech wind tunnel? Give flight a try at the local iFLY Indoor Skydiving center.
10) Arapahoe Bowling Center – Greenwood Village:
Boasting 40 lanes, Arapahoe Bowling Center is the place for leagues and occasional bowlers. So, dust off your bowling shoes and try for a strike with or without bumpers.
11) InVINtions, A Creative Winery- Greenwood Village:
A fully operational winery in the heart of the Denver Tech Center? Yes, it does exist. Come for a taste, a bottle, or even create your own batch of wine.
