Denver South—and Colorado broadly—enjoys one of the most robust and diversified economies in the country.
As a result, our region is enjoying record low unemployment and stronger growth than nearly any area of the country, with a diversity of strong, advanced industries such as health care, financial services, engineering and telecommunications, to name a few. Within these industries, companies range from early-stage start-ups to some of the world’s leading large enterprises.
Through this diverse business community, however, runs a common thread: Innovation-and the need for more of it. Large enterprises often struggle to develop transformative new innovations to maintain their competitive advantage within their markets. Young, emerging companies have great ideas and innovations but struggle with a lack of access to key resources like capital, talent and access to global customers.
In Denver South and in Colorado, we’re working to bring these companies—from early to mature—together to create benefit for all, resulting in considerable job and wealth creation in the process.
October’s Featured Speakers:
Mayor Noon will serve as our moderator. One of the hotbeds for innovation in our community, Centennial is leading the way through many smart-city initiatives, and partnerships. This includes a pilot program with the ride share company Lyft aimed at solving the first-mile, last-mile conundrum.
PeakMed is pushing the boundaries of an exciting new model of health care delivery: Direct Primary Care. Instead of a traditional model of delivery including providers, health systems and insurance companies; PeakMed operates its clinics, including here in Denver South, on an insurance-free membership model. This model creates incentives to keep patients healthy and out of the traditional health care system and utilizes cutting edge technology like telehealth and mobile apps to create efficient care delivery.
Innovation Corridor is a collaboration led by Formativ and including National Renewable Energy Laboratories (NREL), the University Corporation for Academic Research (UCAR) and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR.) This effort is focused on taking groundbreaking innovations developed inside leading federally funded labs in Colorado and bringing them to market in partnership with for-profit businesses and capital sources.
The business community in Denver and Colorado are maturing and have taken a leadership role in the U.S. The next step in our evolution, however, is to become a truly global hub for innovation and commerce. The new World Trade Center campus, located in the River North (RiNo) district in Denver along the 38th and Blake Street light rail station between Union Station and DIA, aims to be the catalyst for this global growth. Home to a range of large global companies, promising early startups, coworking space, multiple incubators and accelerators, and initiatives like the Colorado Innovation Corridor, WTC Denver’s campus is poised to be the launch pad for Colorado companies to engage in truly global business development.
