LITTLETON, Colo. (Sept. 2, 2016) – Arapahoe Community College’s Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program and the Kaiser Permanente Laboratory Department have partnered to offer four apprenticeship positions to Kaiser employees during the 2016-17 academic year.

Kaiser Permanente Colorado anticipates that over 30 Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist positions will become available in the next 3-5 years due to retirement and resignation. In response to this need, Kaiser and ACC have created an apprentice program, which is a collaborative effort between Kaiser Permanente Colorado Laboratory, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 105, SEIU United Healthcare Workers – West & Joint Employer Education Fund, Arapahoe Community College, Department of Labor, and the Greater Metro Denver Healthcare Partnership. The program is registered with the US Department of Labor as a Registered Apprenticeship.
Employees who are selected to participate in the program will work as an MLT Apprentice and receive both an hourly wage and benefits. Costs associated with the program are covered for participants, who will also complete a 13-week paid internship.
Upon successful completion of the program, participants must successfully obtain MLT certification through the America Society of Clinical Pathology – Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) within one year of graduation and commit to a two-year employment contract with a Kaiser Permanente Colorado Laboratory.
